As God’s creation, we are accountable to God for how we live our lives, because we owe God our existence.

Accountability is judged by obedience to Law. God’s law (10 commandments) tells us that we should relate to God the right way, on His Terms (the Bible calls a covenant) and behave the right way (we are all aware of right and wrong, and, that genuine love must be based upon truth).

None of us have obeyed God’s Law perfectly, and the Bible calls the breaking of God’s Law sin.

The Bible tells us that God originally created man perfect; in the right relationship with Him, and with perfect moral integrity. However, for man to have the freedom to love God, God had to give man the opportunity to reject God’s love and Truth (right relationship with Him).

Sadly, the first man and woman God created rebelled against God, breaking the original covenant between mankind and God, and corrupting our original created condition, rendering us all sinners by nature; meaning, we aren’t born with the right relationship with God, and will break God’s moral Law.

The Bible tells us that God’s standard of justice is a life for a life, and just one sin results in the wages of sin, death (eventually, eternal separation from God). Whilst it may seem unfair that we are held accountable for what our predecessors did, we share their nature, so they represent what we ourselves would have done.

Thankfully, God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world. The Son is both God and sinless man. As sinless man Jesus offered Himself as the perfect substitute sacrifice for us, taking our sins (sin identity) upon Him, and the destiny that our sin brings (separation from God).

As God, Jesus rose from the dead, and is able to give us His Righteousness (right standing with God) to whoever believes and accepts the good news of the New Covenant (new basis to commune/relate with God).

Through Jesus we are Born again; God has brought us into a new relationship with Him, whereby we have received a New Origin, Nature, Purpose and Destiny from Him, guaranteed by the finished work and merits of Jesus.

Christians can live in the certain hope that God will complete His promise of salvation to us, when He raises us from the dead.
